About Winnipeg

Winnipeg is the vibrant capital of Manitoba, the geographical centre of Canada and North America. It is a mid-sized city of approximately 650,000 diverse people, who bring an international, cosmopolitan flare to the city as well as a feeling of community.

Winnipeg’s night scene ranges from the intimate and cultural to the experimental and cutting-edge. See the established and emerging artists at the Manitoba Theatre Centre, the more intimate Prairie Theatre Exchange, the internationally-acclaimed Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Manitoba Opera or Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers.

Head on over to the Exchange District, where many new and exciting nightclubs join established watering holes. Or make your way to the “Little Italy” of Winnipeg on Corydon Avenue to live the “vita bella”. The City of Winnipeg has a large selection of acclaimed restaurants – from fine dining to casual pub fare, it’s all here. Here you’ll find thriving communities and exciting nightlife to rival that of any major city in Canada.

The City of Winnipeg boasts over 2,300 hours of sunshine on average per year, among the highest of Canadian cities. The city features access to many waterways, beaches, camping, hiking, boating, fishing and other recreational outdoor activities amongst some of the most beautiful and picturesque settings in all of Canada.

Winnipeg is a true sports town, offering enthusiasts the opportunity to either play or watch. Catch the Winnipeg Goldeyes during the National League baseball playoffs at CanWest Global Park; cheer on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with 30,000 other fans of the Canadian Football League; or, watch the Winnipeg Jets play fast-paced professional hockey in their chase for a National Hockey League championship at the world-class MTS Centre.

The Forks is a vibrant complex of entertainment, shopping and eateries at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers.

Folklorama is one of the biggest ethnic festivals in North America. Over two weeks in August, 20,000 volunteers from 45 ethnic groups dance, sing, demonstrate crafts and prepare the specialties of their countries at pavilions all over the city.
